On 5 June 2003, the 36th anniversary of the Israeli occupation of Palestine, the Manchester chapter of the International Solidarity Movement displayed a memorial to more than three thousand people who have been killed since the start of the second Palestinian uprising (intifada) in September 2001 in St Ann's Square, Manchester. The memorial lists each and every person killed - Israelis, Palestinians and Internationals - and their name, age and nationality. The memorial measures a massive 20 square meters - testament to the scale of the bloodshed occurring on an almost daily basis in Israel and Palestine. |
